LENTICULAR (2013)
In 2011, John Hey developed a fashion line conceived specifically for his choreographic works. The collection emerged from an encounter with a small market booth in Riga, where garments carried an improbable mixture of visual languages—patterns that seemed to belong everywhere and nowhere at once.
Inspired by this accidental archive of motifs, Hey produced a series of costumes designed to move with the body on stage. As a modest offshoot of the project, OAOA created a lenticular card—an image that shifts as the viewer moves.
During a visit to Riga in 2012, OAOA quietly attached the card to the window of the very booth that had inspired the collection. The gesture went unnoticed for nearly a year, until photographer Ansis Starks was invited to document the shop. As the camera appeared, the booth’s owners suddenly rushed outside and removed the card, their curiosity finally catching up with the small object that had been silently observing the market for months.
